Welcome to this project website documenting our research on internet voting.
In several Swiss cantons, pilot schemes were set up in the early 2000s to establish internet voting. Switzerland is one of the pioneers worldwide and by now has more than ten years of experience in the field. However, at the moment the strategy is to generalise internet voting for the Swiss living abroad first and to slowly expand coverage of this new remote voting channel domestically as well. Research deals with questions of whether internet voting influences participation patterns or political campaigning, for example.
The project is based at the Centre for Democracy Studies Aarau (ZDA) at the University of Zürich and supported by a consortium of cantons as well as the Federal Chancellery.
You can find more information on internet voting on a page of the Electoral Knowledge Network ace or check out pages of other scholars, such as the ones of Ardita Driza-Maurer, Nicole Goodman or Robert Krimmer.
